(Name)… She’s beautiful. The way her (h/c) blows in the breeze, her pretty (e/c) eyes and her gorgeous smile that lights up my entire day, every time I see her she leaves me speechless.

But I can never admit my feelings to her.

We’ve been best friends for so long, about 8 years now, but she never seems to return my love… Not that I’ve ever shown it straight-out like how Francis would; just kissing the girl.

I send her Valentine’s Day cards every year, and she always returns them, but she doesn’t love me like that; she only returns them to be friendly.

I give her hugs on all her birthdays, and she then proceeds to tell me how I am the best friend ever, how I always care for her and how she loves me. As a friend.

She just doesn’t return my feelings.

We sit on the park bench, gazing out at the frozen river presented in front of us. The ice sparkled, as did her eyes, reflecting the rays of moonlight as we sipped our coffee, our breath floating upwards in white billowing clouds.

I laugh at a joke she tells as she takes another sip from her cup and giggles softly, adorably. She tucks her hair behind her ears and I gaze at her, trying not to be seen admiring her innocent beauty. I blush lightly as she notices and looks over at me and I look across the stream again, avoiding her eyes.

“Arthur, is something wrong?” She asks with her melodic voice.

“N-no, of course not…” I drift off foolishly, blushing a little bit darker.

“Oh, alright then.” She smiles warmly and looks over the lake again, ignoring the fact that I was back to staring at her angelic face.

“(Name)… Can you sing for me?” Arthur asked me from across the coffee table. He had invited me over to his house to watch a movie, and at the moment we were eating some food that he had prepared. I know everyone hates his cooking, but I don’t see what’s wrong with it. It’s just food.

“Hmm,” I thought for a moment. “If you really want me to… I’ve never been that much of a singer. What song do you want me to sing?” I smiled, deciding that I would give it a go. After all, even if I was terrible, Artie wouldn’t be mean about it. He is my best friend, after all.

“Could you sing that lovely song…? What’s it called again…? Catch Me, is it? I’ve always really enjoyed that one.” He said, frowning at the floor in… was that embarrassment?

I grinned warmly, grabbing my guitar, knowing the exact song he was thinking of. “Sure!! I really like that one, too!!”

For some odd reason, he blushed at these words. I wondered if there was anything wrong, but I didn’t ask; I didn’t want him to know I was worried. He always gets defensive over stuff like that.

I started with the first simple guitar chords and then gradually I started to sing along. The chords got more and more complicated, and I have to admit, I did miss a few notes, but that didn’t make the look on Arthur’s face falter. I couldn’t quite place the emotion he was displaying… But it was familiar.

Throughout the time I was singing, I was smiling just for him. At one point, he made a really funny noise in his throat and I laughed, completely ruining the line I was vocalizing. But luckily, he wasn’t annoyed with me, he even laughed along.

“Oh, but you’re so hypnotizing, you’ve got me laughing while I sing, you’ve got me smiling in my sleep~ And I can see this unraveling; your love is where I’m falling, but please don’t catch me~ If this is love then don’t break me, I’m giving up so just catch me~” I finished the song with a flourish.

He sat there for a moment without making a sound. Then he started clapping and smiling, apparently pleased with my performance. I giggled playfully and curtsied. He bowed back.

“Arthur!! Come look at this picture,” I called out to him from his attic. We were sorting out his old dusty old photo albums that he no longer had use for. We planned to throw this one away, but luckily I found it.

I heard his sort footsteps trudging up the stairs and the door opened with a high pitched loud creaking noise that made me cover my ears. He smiled in apology.

As he crouched down next to me, I pointed out the faded picture of the two of us standing in front of an old wooden rollercoaster, me laughing and him smiling. I laughed at the shocked expression on his face.

“I… I remember that, (Name)!”

I screamed as the coaster whipped around the sharp bend. I clung to Arthur tightly, burying my face in his shirt as the wind lashed around our heads, making our hair fly in all directions.

When the ride was finally over, I released him, and after a few seconds, began to laugh hysterically at the rush. He joined in, a faint pink blush dusted across his cheeks, but I don’t know why…

I laugh harder at the memory and he smiles somberly at the picture, the faint red in his cheeks returning. But, as always, I didn’t ask him about it.

We rode down the bike path slowly, an umbrella in her hand, trying to shield her form from the sun. I laughed inwardly; she didn’t need to cover up. I knew her well enough to know she never got a tan or a burn before.

We stopped underneath a large oak tree, lying in the shade away from the hot summer sun.

I lay down on a large root, closing my eyes and enjoying the cool atmosphere. I felt a sudden weight on my right shoulder and looked down to see (Name), her eyes closed as well and her beautiful features looking content. I didn’t have the heart to make her move, but I honestly think my breathing stopped for a moment.

I eventually fell asleep with (Name) on my shoulder, and when I awoke, she was still fast asleep wearing a peaceful expression. I took the opportunity and kissed her forehead softly, managing not to wake her. She smiled.

Rejected. I had been rejected by the boy of my dreams, one of the only boys I had ever loved. Why, Lovi?

I threw myself onto my bed, crying, as Arthur pounded on the door, demanding that I opened it. He eventually managed to open the wooden door and sit at the end of my bed, pulling me into a hug and rubbing my back to comfort me. I gripped to him tightly, crying into his shirt.

“N-now you know w-why I’m scared!! I can’t l-let anyone know my true f-feelings!!” I managed to splutter out between sobs. His eyes widened at my words.

“You can. But if the person takes it the wrong way, they’ll act like Lovino did and reject you. But if you need to talk to me, talk to me, alright?” He said awkwardly, blushing slightly.  

I took a deep breath, for what I was about to say took a lot of courage.

“A-Arthur… I’ve known t-this for a while n-now… And you’ll p-probably hate me forever… B-but… I love you.” His grip on me tightened and I waited for the pain of rejection, rejection for the second time…

He pushed me away without letting go of my shoulders. My eyes burned with the droplets of water that wouldn’t come, but then I realized his eyes were brimming with tears of happiness and he was blushing dark red.

“I-I love you too, (Name). I have since I met you.”

He leaned inwards, and I knew what he was going to do. He kissed me softly but passionately, and I found myself kissing him back. After a few seconds, however, he pulled away and pulled me into a tight hug again.
